One-On-One workshops – Encaustic Workshop/Retreat – Open Studio
ONE-ON-ONE WORKSHOP: 9:00 – 12 pm.

Location: Osprey Studio, Mebane, NC
Date: Jude will contact you to work out a date to fit your schedule.
All materials will be supplied including boards. At the end of the workshop you should have completed at least 2 works of art.
This workshop is designed to give one a hands on introduction to creating in encaustics. In this workshop students will learn the basics:
• Materials needed to begin working in encaustics.
• What type supports to use and how to prepare them.
• Creating colored wax from earth pigments.
• Embedding objects, fabric or paper into the painting.
• Fusing layers and learning heat control.
• Inscribing and making texture.
• Applying alcohol ink.
• Sources for supplies.
You will receive a Workshop pamphlet that has information about how to begin working in Encaustic and sources. At the workshop we will begin by doing three 8X8 flat boards of techniques. You can choose from the following six encaustic techniques that you would like to pursue: Glue Textures, Embossing, Collage, Incising, Embedding natural elements & Shellac Burning. These will give you starter panels for finished paintings to use during the workshop.
This is a one-on-one class, so it will be designed for your specific needs. The date will be set up to fit your schedule. When paying, include your email and phone number.
Should any injuries occur during or as a result of participation in any class or workshop, the registered student agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Jude Lobe and visiting instructors and volunteers connected with Osprey Studio.
• ENCAUSTIC WORKSHOP & RETREAT
Instructors: Jude Lobe and Carol Engler
Location: Horseshoe Farm, Westfield, NC
Dates: Friday afternoon, Saturday & Sunday. July 7th, 8th & 9th, 2017. [FULL]
Cost: $400. (Includes Friday evening light meal, overnight accommodations, Saturday breakfast, lunch & dinner, Sunday breakfast and lunch)
Spend the night in the air-conditioned cabin on-site. Limited to 4 persons.
All materials will be supplied. At the end of the workshop you should have completed at least 5 works of art.
Spend the weekend in a beautiful venue to learn encaustic painting. Spend free time hiking trails in the woods along the river and lake, cooling off in the swimming pool, and relaxing at night in the hot tub with a glass of wine.
We will have orientation on Friday, sessions on Saturday with breaks for lunch and dinner. On Sunday we will begin with breakfast then have a session. After breaking for lunch, participants can begin departing. If you want to hike on Sunday, a lunch bag with sandwich and drink will be prepared for you.

Space is limited. Small class size (usually 4 students) makes for a very personalized learning experience and students of all skill levels gain from the intimate studio environment. Due to the limited number of spaces available per class early registration is recommended to secure your spot. Cabin has 2 twin beds in downstairs bedroom, and 2 twin beds and 1 king size bed in the upstairs bedroom. It has a full kitchen if you’d like to bring snack food or extra drinks.
